No Talks Under Pressure, No Repeat of Ukraine’s Humiliation
WANA (Mar 04) – After remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump about his readiness to negotiate with Iran—and repeated statements by senior Iranian officials that negotiations under pressure and threats are unacceptable—Fatemeh Mohajerani, the spokesperson for the Iranian government, once again reiterated Iran’s stance in her weekly press conference held today.
“We will not negotiate under pressure and threats. Negotiation is a voluntary act. No one can force another to sit at the negotiating table. Negotiation is a dialogue that must take shape between individuals and lead them toward a specific goal. Therefore, it is a voluntary matter, not subject to coercion, and naturally, under maximum pressure, we will not negotiate,” she stated.
A Message to Ukraine’s President
On the issue of recent tensions between U.S. officials and Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, she had a message to Zelensky: “I will tell Mr. Zelensky that security is an intrinsic matter; we should not see security as a commodity—it cannot be purchased. Security is not necessarily something that can be bought; it must be cultivated in the hearts of the people.”
“Security is like a seedling that grows from people’s hearts and becomes a pillar upon which governance and sovereignty can stand firm. Therefore, do not gamble your country’s assets on just one president. Return to your people and ensure that your nation’s resources are not lost in this gamble,” she added.
Regarding the United States’ maximum pressure policy on Iran, she said: “Maximum pressure has been tested before, in even more difficult conditions when we were simultaneously dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. We experienced it and saw that maximum pressure—though we do not claim it does not cause hardship—certainly does. However, we are not willing to witness the kind of humiliation that the Ukrainian people experienced with insults directed at their president (by American officials).”
She mentioned: “Negotiation is a voluntary matter, and naturally, our approach is one of negotiation, provided that it is conducted with dignity.”
Gaza and the Issue of Forcibly Displacing Palestinians
Mohajerani also commented on forcibly displacing Gaza’s population: “Gaza is a part of Palestine, and it is a part of historical Palestine, which is the cradle of divine religions. The belonging of this region to Palestine is in no way deniable. The plan for the forced displacement of Gaza’s residents is a continuation of policies that have already included the genocide of the people of Gaza and Palestine.”
“We hope that this does not happen in Palestine, and naturally, our approach is to support the Palestinian people. We hope to see this crime against humanity minimized as soon as possible and for the Palestinian people to return to their rightful homes,” she added.
Turkish FM Remarks on Iran
Regarding the recent remarks of Hakan Fidan on Iran, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, the spokesperson for the Iranian government, Fatemeh Mohajerani, said: “From our perspective, this matter was unconstructive, and I hope we will not witness its repetition.”
She continued: “Sometimes, our actions lead to the Zionist regime becoming more aggressive, and we are witnessing its increased aggression—just as we have clearly seen in Syria. Our approach is to establish a secure and tension-free region, free from the presence of individuals whose existence brings nothing but harm. We hope that, with a wise approach, we will witness maximum peace, stability, and tranquility in the region.”
“Security cannot be bought; it is an internal matter. Do not gamble away your country’s assets with just one president ( Trump). Return to your people and ensure you don’t lose your country’s wealth in this #gamble.”
